Of course, this is not the original sentence he heard from Angelo, just how he remembers it, mingled with Radiohead's lyrics. But got Angelo's warning.

Angelo sees himself trapped in a rural community he finds rather limited and dull, in a school where he too soon was crowned to still consider the challenge of captivating the other students -- and the only respite he finds is in Laurent and Catherine's company and household -- or it used to be so, before Edoardo moved in.

Angelo feels like he is stranded in an island he longs to flee from, after an accident that left him one single survival companion -- Laurent. Later, Angelo shall want to escape from Laurent too, a boyfriend who has become himself the boundaries of a lonely island. But let's enjoy their adolescent love for now.

I have chosen Elizabeth's Bishop lines to open this story "The art of losing is not hard to master" -- in time, it shall become true to Laurent (and everyone else in this life, I guess), but at the moment it is actually impossible for him to lose! He is always afraid of losing those he loves, and he will accept and submit to whatever conditions Catherine and Angelo impose on him for their affection. Catherine knows that, and she blackmails Laurent to accept Edoardo. Angelo is still learning his ways with Laurent, and when he finally realizes the power he has over his boyfriend, nothing will stop Angelo from abusing Laurent. But again, that is in the future.

And from the future of this story we already know that Angelo is currently married to Laura. So no, he is not gay. He is just having sex with Laurent, who happens to be a boy. He is even romantically involved with Laurent, a boy who happens to be the only person he can consider of any interest in his life at the moment -- but that does not make him gay. Angelo will resist being labeled because he does not want to conform with the life style and conduct implied in being gay. Where Laurent is full of fears and want to settle, Angelo is fearless and willing to exprience and explore more, overcoming boundaries.

Of course their love is not destined to last, but being teenagers they don't realize that yet, unable to recognize their differences as fundamental and their similarities as circumstancial.

Thank you for reading and commenting, LateKnightSimmer!
Andante Zenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10000213495439627694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8991339675338164589.post-50634293713320592282014-09-17T16:10:06.187-07:002014-09-17T16:10:06.187-07:00"I stick with you because there is no one els..."I stick with you because there is no one else." This phrase is so... I don't know, it gives me mixed feelings. On one hand, it can be taken romantically, as "there is no one else for me." On the other hand, it makes it sound like the person is only sticking with their lover because the lover is their last resort, like there are no other guys who want to fuck besides Laurent, so Angelo stays with him.
Wow their living arrangements are so tense! Haha. It's too bad Edoardo is so rash and unwilling to understand Angelo, I can see maybe where Angelo gets his attitude from. Poor Laurent, he's so afraid of losing Angelo that he just takes the mean things he says to him. I think Angelo just doesn't know how to be kind and a little sensitive, and maybe he's in denial of his sexuality. I don't know for sure though, since Angelo admitted to being bi, which, yes, is different from gay, but I wonder why Angelo keeps denying that he's gay. I suppose part of being bi means you are half gay because you are also attracted to the same gender? Haha, words can be so strange sometimes.LateKnightSimmerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07641353218072486154noreply@blogger.com
